All About that Water Closet (aka Le Toilette)
Yep I’m trying to make it sound all fancy. The very important and let’s be real, one of the hardest working parts of the bathroom. The toilet. I knew I wanted to add in a burst of fun and spunk in the teensy tiny 15 sq ft le toilette. Doesn’t that sound much more glamorous?!
If you would like to see this One Room Challenge project from it’s before’s and demo through this point check out these posts! The plan, DIY vanity makeover and DIY copper pulls, floor tile and install, Norwegian Rose marble and Zellige fireplace, the copper shower pan, waterproofing the shower and how to install Zellige tile.

It’s tiny, like really tiny. When we started this is what it looked like.

The doorway here is even more snug than a standard door opening.
At first I had planned to spice it up with some fun wallpaper and an epic fixture but when we were working on installing the floor, I got seriously fed up with that door. The opening is a dinky 24 inches that barely swings past the toilet when opening/closing. And how about that honey colored wood? Sexy, umm not even close.
You had to shimmy in around the toilet to shut the door and repeat again when you opened it.
So I declared “Off with the door.” Off it went and we popped the frame in a span of 5 minutes. It made SUCH a difference.

Door frame and trim removed with salvaged door prepped.
I found this beautiful solid wood door at a local salvage shop and with a few adjustments and a barn door hardware kit it became a slider for this space.
To cleanup the opening and finish it, we opted to use walnut from a local hardware store to make our own door frame. We didn’t need much and it almost perfectly matched the tones in the salvaged door.

Here we’ve got the door framed in, this is how the door looks from the outside. Soo much prettier and a million times more functional.
And then we put in the wallpaper, can I get a hallelujah?! I went with this bold print from Milton and King.

I painted the ceiling the same white as the rest of the bathroom. It brightens it up and lends the perfect backdrop for the little bro fixture of the mac daddy Sparta light seen here.

We did all of the measuring and stud location prior to the wallpaper install so when it went up we already had all of the anchor locations marked. Woohoo for only the necessary holes and not 1,204,394 extra holes.

I can’t get enough of this combo. All the heart eyeballs.

Yes, I stood on top of the potty for this shot. Whaddaya gonna do?
I really wanted to add a window in here but the budget was busting at the seams and this would involve a stucco crew and HOA approval (which takes forevs OMG) so I worked with the existing sitch. This wallpaper not only makes me happy but it makes the teensy space look bigger. It draws the eye up to the 9 ft ceiling.

I ordered the brass floor cover from Amazon.
The bright white marble and brass detail of the Carve Mosaic floor tile combined with the bold ceiling fixture and fun pop on the walls. Yeah it’s SO much better.

You knew I was going crazy bold and funky somewhere amiright?!
The smallest spaces are often times the most flexible. Powder rooms, water closets and bathrooms are such a perfect space to have some serious fun.
That covers the bulk of the bathroom renovation while we wait for the tub and shower fixtures to arrive. Up next I’m moving into the master bedroom with a few projects that made a BIG difference starting with a new floor! For real, it’s as easy to install as fit, tap and snap.
What do you think? Crazy to use a black background wallpaper in such a small space? How about that light fixture?
