My Family Held My Computer Hostage

How about a funny reminder that we have to give ourselves a minute?  As I shared in my last post I’ve been consumed with all things bathroom and bathroom design from making design decisions, selecting finishes, figuring out the reno schedule, researching and vetting plumbers, etc.

I haven’t taken a day off in weeks despite every Friday announcing to my family “I am going to take this weekend off, I am going to do it!”  And each weekend I utterly fail at actually taking a single day off let alone the weekend.

My daughter said to my husband “you know how mom says she’s going to take the weekend off?” With his raised eyebrow and “uh huh”.  Apparently they decided I needed help with that.

My family staged an intervention. On Tuesday right after my work in the morning my husband announced that I will not be allowed on the computer for the next 24 hours.  And if I was caught on the computer by any member of the household he would turn off my internet.  The shock I tell you!  And my kids totally have no problem telling on me.

All these hooligans vs me.

I’m not going to lie, I panicked.  OMG I’m going to lose a whole day!  That’s a valuable day of working.  And then I decided to get it together because I could do a day.

And we went through a salvage yard, hit up a flea market, went out to lunch.  Then came home and watched Ford vs Ferrari all together followed up by a lazy dinner and snuggles with my youngest.

I had become so consumed by this project I lost some perspective.  So despite the fact that I was banned from my computer and my family was watching me with eagle eyes the entire time just waiting to pounce, they were absolutely right.

More of this like my son…although inside with a fire on because it’s currently very snowy and cold.

I need to take that day or 2 off a week.  Burnout is real and it sucks so I’m vowing to take better care of myself and my mental health by making sure I take a break.

Hopefully it won’t involve the removal of the internet.

How do you handle things when you are pushing yourself too hard?  Any tips to help me make sure I live up to the commitment of a weekend?

I always love to hear from ya so hit me up in the comments!
