My Eclectic Life

I’m A Year Older and This is What I’ve Learned…

getting older, what I have learned, a year wiser, accomplishments, moving forward

I’m just gonna go ahead and say it….it’s my birthday, I’m gonna party like it’s my birthday!  Ok, only if party like it’s my birthday refers to watching a movie and going to bed by 9pm.  I’m turning the big 36 in a few days and this is honestly the first time I have ever felt a little apprehension at my age.  For the first 33 years of my life I felt mentally older than my physical age.  Now, it’s the opposite.

Crazy right?!  Of course this leads me to be thinking a lot about this last year.  What have I accomplished, where do I want to go from here and overall personal satisfaction.  I’m sure I’m not the only one that gets a bit nostalgic when it’s their birthday, amiright?!

So let’s chat about what I’m thinking about.  This last year has been a whirlwind of mostly awesome.  When I began this blog and my Instagram account it was all about sharing my personal aesthetic and to hopefully inspire other people to make their homes their own.  And from this has come some surprising and awesome opportunities!

I have found an amazing like minded community in Instagram and made so many friends I am incredibly grateful for!  I’m so excited to say I reached 20,000 followers on IG (mad love to my IG peeps!! I’ve got an AWESOME giveaway coming up!) Apartment Therapy decided to feature me AND there is one other exciting announcement and huge dream come true I can’t talk about quite yet! ; ) In a month I will be singing it from the rooftops so stay tuned!

These are big achievements for me that I am incredibly proud of not only because I reached them but because I never expected anything when I started.  They were the lofty “that would be so awesome” kind but I was just happy to be doing what I was doing!

I’ve grown, I’ve learned, I’ve worked hard and I’ve seen positive things come from it and I think that’s the best you can hope for.  So between reaching my professional goals and my amazing husband and children I feel incredibly fortunate.  Not only am I working on setting new goals for myself, (check out how I feel about goals here) but I’m starting to get the hang of this balance thing and focusing on my family time too. (see our family vacay here!) We’ve been fishing, swimming, mini golfing, scooter riding and playing hotbox (NOT the smoke in the car kind lol).

We also began the journey into the possibility of moving across the country this year too and it’s still in progress so we’ll see how it all comes together.  And I won’t say it hasn’t been an emotional and stressful experience thus far but I have positive hopes for the outcome whatever that may be.  (We’ve even talked about sticking around here!)  Another stay tuned I’ll keep ya posted topic!

To wrap up, 36 is looking like it may just be the best year yet and I am pretty darned excited to see what it is going to bring, cause 35 is going to be hard to top.  Life is unpredictable and you gotta go with the ride, do the best you can with what you’ve got and who knows what incredible things will come from it.

Much love friends!!  Have you evaluated the previous year when it’s your birthday?  How do you feel about turning a year older?

I always love to hear from ya so hit me up in the comments or shoot me an email!
