Home is More Important Than Ever… Easy Ways to Amp It Up Without Leaving The House!
With the current situation many find ourselves in from self quarantine to lockdowns, it’s a good time to chat about how important our home environments are. From lifting our spirits with cheerful color to calming our nerves with a space we enjoy relaxing in, our homes have a definite impact on our overall well being.
Since we are finding ourselves with time on our hands (aka quarantine/lockdown) I thought it would be fun to give you some ideas of easy ways you can make changes in your home to better reflect how you want to feel, all without leaving home.
Musical Furniture
By far the easiest and cheapest option is to look at what you have in your home already and move it around. This is my favorite thing to do as it challenges me to re-imagine a space other than the way I currently have it. It could be as simple as just coming up with a different layout using the same furniture to swapping a chair from another room or stealing a rug from the bedroom. You can get as crazy (mine usually lead to a several room changes) or as simple as you want, plus it’s FREE.

Here’s the latest fam room look! Check out the different ways I styled this space in 2019 here.
Paint
If you have some leftover paint stashed in the garage why not bust it out and try your hand at a fun accent wall by painting a mural. It can be anything from a simple graphic to a full on forest but it gets those juices flowing. Or take some of that paint and give that tired side table a fresh makeover. Or how about painting that bathroom you’ve been wanting to do forever?! Paint is easy to work with and completely transformative. If you don’t have any but would like to go for this project, check out online options. Several retailers are now offering paint right to your door. Here are just a few I found with this option; Behr, Backdrop, Ecos

This is our bedroom, we just painted it this soft pink hue in January. I created this color myself by mixing 2 colors I had on hand. You can check out the full makeover here and the before color further down in this post.
Peel and Stick Wallpaper
There are thousands of peel and stick wallpaper companies out there and some custom print to size. Peel and stick is amazing as literally anyone can do it. It is really as simple as peel the backing and stick it to the wall, if I can do it anyone can do it!  Try googling peel and stick wallpaper or Etsy has loads as well. I have personally worked with Muse Wall Studios several times and can definitely attest to loving their paper. Order what interests you and have it shipped to your door.

Art
If you have a space that could use some sprucing up make your own art yourself or do an art project with your kids. Haul out those markers, watercolor paints and crayons and have a ball. If you have some old art that you aren’t into anymore, you can swap it out and use the frame for the art you just created. Another idea is framing textiles, anything from a beautiful scarf to grandma’s crochet to pinning up a rug. Art is great in that whatever you have and love, it counts as art.

This is a project I did with craft paper and some frames to boost my motivation.
Pillows, Textiles and Rugs
If you want to change things up on another level, small shops are such a great place to find unique and interesting pieces. Etsy is one of my favorite places to look for these items as it’s such a great source for these small businesses. If you know what you are looking for you can do a Google search for other options that may not be on Etsy.

I bought this pink morroccan rug from my friend Lise’s small shop Souks Du Monde while the suzani is from my friend Jo La Boheme House of the Wishing Trees. There are so many amazing small businesses out there!
At the end of the day, it’s all about making you feel happy, comfortable, safe and calm in your home. Doing any one or all of these ideas will help you keep your mind busy and focus on making that haven for yourself. The idea is simply to make it work better for you, after all you deserve it.
