A New Master Bedroom for a New Year!

It is officially 2020 and after taking most of December off I am back and ready to kick some serious behind!  And of course what better way to do that than to dive head first into a room makeover?!

I wanted a light, fresh, inviting and somewhat simplified feel for our master bedroom.  I pondered accent walls, wall murals and various flooring but I got so fed up with myself and my flip flopping like crazy on what direction I wanted to go.   So I finally just marched my arse downstairs and grabbed a can of paint I had mixed up myself a few years ago for the Mom’s Oasis (don’t judge the pics from that post yikes!  Anyway it’s now white and a studio for shooting my shop products) and slapped some tester squares on the walls.

We ended up quite liking that shade and went to Home Depot, on January 1st and had them color match 2 more gallons.  Came home and got to work!

How about I just show you the refreshed space! (For the before of the entire room go here!)

We have this little “entry” into our bedroom with an arch.  I put up one of my fave pieces from Copper Corners as a burst prior to the actual space.

Here’s a view from the arch.  This shows almost the entire room.

It’s so much softer and more open.

Just off to the left from the above shot is a see-thru fireplace into the bathroom.  I styled it with a thrifted chair I had stored, some existing pillows and a throw along with a couple of big plants.

You can see we painted that moulding along the tray ceiling the same color as the walls.  It really gives it a soothing and modern feel while maintaining the charm of the trim.

Just to the right of the bathroom door is our tv.  (Hubs HAS to have a tv in here…why are they so ugly?!)  So I blended it as much as I could with plants!

The plants hide the power cord and fill in the random space below.

Here is the window wall where our bed was previously.  I kept it simple with a set of paintings by my girl MC (Copper Corners) that I had her do for me for the Schoolroom ORC.

This is the view from the bed, the trim really keeps it soft until you get to the bold ceiling!

A lot of people think this sofa is new but I have been using it in my office for the last year.  It was just hiding behind my desk.

The art frames the windows while giving both corners some interest.  And dang if I couldn’t stare at these for hours anyway, all the heart eyes.

They also carry the same colors as the rugs!

 Here’s the view of the other side of the room from the bathroom door.

Walls are simple with action happening on the floor and the wood ceiling.

 This mirror is one of the few new things in here.  I ordered it from Anthro during their 30% off home sale and it just arrived.   It’s as glorious as I imagined it would be.  I had been looking everywhere over the last year for a similar sized vintage mirror….except sadly no luck.

So when they had the big home sale I went for it!

 Swinging on over to the bed I struggled with this wall, I’m not gonna lie.  I didn’t want it to just blend in but I wasn’t feeling an accent wall either.

We had an idea to hang plants from the tray part of the ceiling (above/around the headboard) going across that wall.  Before I could install them I just hung them on the bed temporarily to keep them off the floor (dogs and kids need I say more) and voila! I loved the almost jungle canopy feel.

Happy accidents are the best accidents sometimes!

The front pillow and the patterned shams bring up all the colors from the rugs.

The plants also work beautifully filling in that weird dead space visually and it really enhances the forest bed style.  Which I can’t ever get enough of.

I used leftover macrame hangers from my kitchen project.  While everything else you see I stole from other rooms with the exception of the teal quilt and one pillow on the bed which are from Target’s Opalhouse line.  They recently had 10% off bedding and the quilt was already on sale, I couldn’t resist!

This shot shows you how I spaced them, so there is plenty of room to get in and out without actually bumping your head on the plants.

Someday I’ll get rid of that carpet ewww.

And the full-ish view again.  I might, ok who am I kidding I will make changes down the road but for now I’m loving the calmer and softer feel.

I’ve enjoyed coming in here in the mornings and sipping coffee while catching up on IG before the kiddos get up and it gets crazy. We just finished it a couple of days ago but it really feels open and inviting but with a bit of oomph.  Exactly the feel I was going for.
