Fast Budget Friendly Holiday Tablescape
Fresh off my Christmas decor post I thought it would be fun to go more in depth on the Christmas/Holiday tablescape I put together on a budget.
This was so easy and inexpensive but feels elegant and ready for a party!
Here’s a peek from the Christmas tour.
Coming in for a close up, the glassware coordinates with the centerpiece decor and it all ties into the colors of the space.
I created a setting for 6 but this works for any size table.
The dishes and stemmed glasses are almost exclusively thrifted. The only exception are the white plates which are wedding china. I chose to use them as they provide a nice crisp base for the colorful vintage plates layered on top.
All of the settings rest on poinsettia place mats from At Home but you can use any kind of placemat you may have. I just recommend something more neutral if you are going with colorful glassware.
Having a neutral backdrop not only allows the colorful glass to pop but it creates a cohesiveness with the centerpiece decor and candles.
The gold flatware was an estate sale find and the drinking glasses were all thrifted. I opted to go with an iridescent sheen and dark pink. A key here for your drinking glassware is to have staggered height. Select something lower complimented by a taller glass. It adds drama and interest.

The center of the table was done simply but with a festive feel. You can use any kind of branch greenery as a base. I have used real branches trimmed from the base of the Christmas tree in the past which is fantastic if possible, its free and easily accessible. But in this photo I used faux (from At Home) which you can find at any craft or home store.
Lay them out evenly spaced across your table angling outward.
Next layer on top some sprigs of an accent. I used white ball on stem accessories to pick up on the white plates and placed them offset from the greenery underneath. For additional color I picked up a pack of small bottle brush trees, in a similar color to my goblets, as well as a pack of standard ornaments.
Place the trees and ornaments sporadically across your table in and on top of your greenery.
Color and texture is the name of the game
Lastly I wanted candlelight and height for drama. I placed some basic hurricane candle lanterns (also from At Home but can be found anywhere including the thrift store) across the table. For the height I added brass candlestick bases that were thrifted with some green and white taper candles.
I think the tall candles mixed with the low works really well together. Pretend you don’t see the leaner on the left 🫣
And here is how it looks altogether! The layered greenery base with the white ball stems and the ornaments with the bottle brush trees finished with the candles. It’s simple and super easy to put together.
I finished each setting with a cloth napkin (easily thrifted or found at most retailers including Amazon) and sprigs of greenery from a grocery store bouquet.
This centerpiece comes together quickly on a time crunch, got guests coming in an hour and you have an empty table? No problem! Snag some greenery from a garland, wreath or tree (whatever you have on hand), a few ornaments from the Christmas tree (you can sub out the bottle brush trees for other ornaments in a contrasting color) and a few candles. Voila you are ready for your plate settings in a flash.
Some thrifted plates, flatware and goblets and you are in business without breaking the bank.
I have always been intimidated on putting together a beautiful table. But once I got started it came together so easily. What a difference it makes in a space to spice up the table!
