DIY Gold Trimmin Out the Fireplace

We’re in the home stretch of the office makeover for the One Room Challenge!  If you want to catch up on what we’ve done so far you can check out the original plan, box paneling and ceiling projects here.

This week I had planned to share 2 projects with you but the materials didn’t make it for the couch in time so that’ll be another quick tutorial post coming up.  But I have a really cool trim project that was so easy and could be applied to a variety of projects.

Here is what the fireplace last looked like, its a white zellige tile we installed a couple of years ago with leftover tile from our bathroom renovation (another ORC project you can see here).  I LOVE the handmade tile but its a stark contrast butted up to the dark plum color.  So I wanted to come up with a way to soften the difference.

I could have left it as is but where’s the fun in that?!

I decided I wanted to build off of the gold in the ceiling mural.   This led me to a gold finished self adhesive trim I found on Amazon for $24.90.  It was perfect for what I wanted to do!

It came in 16 foot rolls with self adhesive tape on the back and a clear protective coating.  We used gloves to handle it because as I took it out of the package I cut myself, don’t be me, use gloves. haha

Its a nice soft gold color and here you can see the removable backing.

First thing was to measure the piece and cut it with a tin snips.

It still has the clear coating here and was really easy to cut to size.  Just be careful because its really sharp.

I started at the top and after warming it with a blow dryer (recommended for best adhesion) slowly pressed and peeled all the way to the bottom.

It literally took me maybe 10-15 minutes to attach the whole piece it was so easy!

Next up was the other side which went just as fast.

I mean look at how that gold carries down from the ceiling.

It makes such a big difference, even that subtle transition from white to plum!  And how about that color match with the gold in the ceiling mural?

Have you ever heard of a metallic wall trim?  Is this a new to you product too?  I’m kind of obsessed now which  makes me slightly worried lol.
