One Room Challenge 2021 Week 4: No More Half Wall + Amazing Wallpaper!

We have reached the halfway point of the One Room Challenge 2021 and are cruising right along.  If you would like a quick recap check those out here for the spaces I’m doing, the design plan and the demo so far.

Huge thanks to Linda and Better Homes and Gardens for the opportunity to share as a featured designer this round, I’m thrilled to be included with the other 19 talented designers.

Now on to the progress from this week.  It includes rockin and rolling with wallpaper in 2 rooms and some serious railing progress.

I decided to have my go to wallpaper guy Joe install the paper in these rooms.  I wanted to give myself a little break in this big project which was totally worth it.

I’m only going to share with you a little sneak peek of each to save some serious eye candy coming up.  But here’s the paper and the trim we painted in B’s room.

Black trim, black ceiling and that bold wallpaper print.   I’m so ready to finish the floor and get some serious contrasting color action in here with the bed and art prints.

Stay tuned for that, it’s going to be a total knockout.

Here’s a peek at A’s room.  The wallpaper is so luscious and rich with the amazing print from Cara Saven Designs.  This is their For Every Season print.  My greatest thanks and gratitude to them for loving the design concept and partnering up with me to make this a reality.

We had just a few panels up to show the pattern but I can’t tell you how much I love this!  And the print, it’s actually 19th century lithographs that were scanned in and combined to create this gorgeous paper.  Can you get any more amazing than that?!

It’s absolutely perfect for this space.  It is artistic, colorful and oh so sophisticated.  Cara Saven Wall Designs also completely customizes their papers for your needs.  This is one of my favorite things about them.  From printing to the size of the space, to color adjustments and scale of the pattern, it’s 100% customizable to your needs.

Then it was time to get the railing out to make way for the new flooring.  This was a project I’ve been waiting 10 long years to do.

First we removed the original layer of sheetrock and exposed the electrical for the box lights that were in the half walls.

Here’s what it looked like ready for the electrical to be capped off.

Once we had  addressed the electrical and it was no longer an issue we were free to start dismantling the structure of the railing.  We took it out piece by piece cutting apart the interior structure and leaving the outer sheetrock.

The last step on each side was to cut right along the plywood floor and remove the sheetrock all at once.  This worked like a charm to keep a smooth cut and line across the flooring for our future wood floor installation.

Here’s how things looked when it was all completely removed.  It was amazing to see how much light would come through without those half walls in the way.

And from below this is the view before we took out that last little piece above the tv.

Our last piece removed it was wide open and ready to go.  We dismantled this the same as the previous 2 pieces along the long walkway.  It came down easily and in one piece.

Now it’s time to start putting it all back together!   Time to clean up and work on the flooring installation.  After that we can work on getting the new railing in along with drywall patching, trim, furniture and final touches.

I wish I could say I see the finish line in sight but it’s a time consuming process when you DIY the entire thing.  We have several days of flooring install ahead of us before we even go after the railing but any progress is still progress amiright?!
