Art Deco Gatsby Style Dining Room

I’ve been working on this room a little under the radar, pulling things together and squeezing in other little projects in between.   But today is the day to see it all finished!

My last post on removing wallpaper was the prep for diving head first into this space.  I previously mentioned that this room didn’t work for us anymore since I moved the desk out, which meant it was time to have a dining room again.

Here’s a quick reminder of how it looked before.

The inspiration for the new design was heavy art deco influences with opulent finishes and ornate elements balanced with modern touches.  Great Gatsby meets 2022 if you will.

First we painted all the trim black, not only was it the best choice for this space but it ties into all the black trim we did upstairs during our DIY reno last fall.  (peep those projects here)

Then I geared up and hung the entire room in a fabulous bold print wallpaper (for tips on hanging wallpaper which was EASY check my Instagram story highlights) and added some small crown molding under the tray ceiling edge.  The rest was just stealing pieces from other rooms in the house and putting it all together.

The final result looks something like this!

It all started with the Italian Verde Luana marble dining table, a facebook marketplace find.

Using the table as my centerpiece I found the wallpaper which carried over the green but added a graphic punch.   It is Belarte Studios Gemoetric Shades design in Teal which gives off the most incredible sophisticated vibe.

The ghost chairs were actually on our outdoor patio.  I purchased these almost 10 years ago from Stack Chairs 4 less but they can also be found on Amazon.  Placing faux sheepskin throws on the seats added some texture and elegance which paired with the Wendy Morrison Designs Phoenix rug is a perfect compliment.  The rug was previously in the bedroom (peep it here).

The incredible light fixture that really brings that art deco glam is the Celestial Chandelier from Corbett Lighting.  They have several variations including flush mounts and sconces in this design.  It’s not a stretch to say I want them all.

With white glass globes and individual glass rods/stems suspended below them in a circular shape I can’t imagine a better fixture for this space.

The large mirror was a last minute change but SO much better than the original plan.  I stole this from the main bedroom (peep that here) and the brass sconces are a vintage thrift store find.

All of the plants were from other areas of the house.  You can see miss Luna keeping an eye out for would be intruders haha.

Flanking the mirror is a set of linen upholstered gold swan armchairs.  I found these last spring at a local flea market and they just belonged in this space.  Despite the rigid look they are EXTREMELY comfortable.  We like to sit in them with coffee, sometimes I sit here and go through emails, read, etc.

I have a set of Italian frosted glass side tables I got from a friend who sources vintage out in Florida.  These 2 beauties were previously in the family room.  They pick up on the glass light fixture while the squiggle shape adds a bit of whimsy.

The marble bookends were a thrift store find.

On the other side I placed my burlwood credenza for storage and created a little bar situation.  The brass drapery rod and steel blue velvet drapes are Amazon.

The credenza was another facebook marketplace piece that was previously hanging out in the family room.  It’s one of my very favorites and stores so many miscellaneous items like candles, keys, leashes, spare glassware, etc.

The brass candleholders on either side are flea market finds from our roadtrip earlier this summer.

I found all of these fantastic old decanters at the thrift store for a few dollars each.  The brass tray and glassware are also thrifted items.

I love how each decanter is distinctly different.

The crane piece is by my friend Sharlene Kayne.  She uses individual pieces of paper sourced from around the world and expertly puts them together to create pieces like this.  I love it here as the texture and color pop contrasts with the wallpaper and picks up on the pink in the rug.

And yep there is an old concrete bust on the corner, his name is Augustus.  We name things around here.

The new space is a fabulous first impression.  It’s right off the entryway with its black and white mural leading into the dining room, the flow feels so right.  (see the mural here)

What do you think?  It’s a huge change although I stuck with the blue and greens.  Would you ever go with an art deco feel in your home?  Who wants a Gatsby inspired room?!
