Low Budget Fam Room Makeover w/Thrifted Finds!
I was itching to do a completely fresh look in the family room, something that just feels light and inviting. Inspiration came in the form of a rug I had been eyeing for over a year on Etsy. Hankering for a bold colorful look (which isn’t anything new lets be honest) I took the plunge and used it as the base for the whole room.
Everything but the rug and yellow pillows are items I already had and just snagged from other rooms in the house. You can really create a whole new space with things in your home, its just about reimagining them in new ways!
Most of the pieces you see are thrifted. For example, the onyx coffee table was a fb marketplace find for $100.
I put several of my favorite art pieces here. Surrounding yourself with things that make you feel good/happy creates a positive energetic space to escape the world.
I stole the ants and disco ball painting from my office (peep that here). The vintage rattan tree lamp and motorcycle are fb marketplace finds.
Very maximalist but I’m SO feeling it right now
I used 2 of the 3 Togo pieces (also fb marketplace!) as seating on either side. This is one of my absolute fave shots. The stone cabinet and lidded basket are from the thrift store, the grandfather clock is a project I diy’d (peep it here) and the lamp, glass vases and side table are flea market finds.
Pillows are World Market and Home Goods from ages ago.
The incredible art piece is by my friend Daniel Freaker and used to live on the opposite wall. But I love the way the windows and light frame it here.
On the flip side this is your view. The painting above used to hang here with a deep blue circle backdrop. But I recently snagged this piece from a thrift shop. Yes you read that right, I was blown away to stumble across her posted on fb marketplace at a charity shop a couple of months ago. It turns out an art collector had donated 3 pieces, all purchased from an art gallery in NM to that local thrift store. She was one of the 3.
By the artist Gugger Petter she is completely created from newspaper woven using a tapestry technique to the frame. I’m madly in love with her and stare at it throughout the day, there is something very mesmerizing about it.
The mushroom stools I’ve had for a few years from Furnishings by Jensen and the lamp is a flea market find.
Here we are looking out, you can see how all the spaces flow together. All pillows and the throw are oldies except for the 2 citron yellow from Home Goods. All the color just gives such a warm and uplifting vibe to the house.

Each and every piece has a memory, says something about us or is just plain fun. In a tough time when the world is feeling pretty rough its more important than ever that we give ourselves a haven to retreat too. You deserve an environment that nurtures you.
