What’s Better than a Giant Shoe?
So I recently stumbled on a giant shoe. Yes you read that right, a giant shoe. 100% real and complete with interior padding, insole, tongue and shoelaces.
It was a former shoe display for Skechers and happened to find its way into a local flea market where I snagged it.

So the idea was awesome but the look, not so much. I got an idea to jazz it up diy style. On the way to checkout people thought we were really strange haha. One lady asked “what are you going to do with it?” I responded with “probably just display it but its going to be fabulous” Her look was skeptical, its all about the vision my friend.
Once I got it home I got out some white spray paint I already had and gave it a few good coats to give me more of a sneaker look and a clean base to build off of.
Once fully dry I moved it in here for the real magic.
I have boatloads of paint samples that I’ve collected, so I dug through all of them to come up with a fun color palette.
Here’s where it landed.
Paint colors are:
Melange Paints – Bohemian Gold & Nomadic Blue
Benjamin Moore -Blushing Red, Pinata, Grape Juice
Sherwin Williams – Alyssum
Artmates – Dark Green Acrylic paint
My next step was to mark out where I wanted to put which colors. I took some painters tape and marked each spot with which color so once I got started I didn’t have to stop and re-evaluate.
You can see the little labels as we got going.
It took several coats to get a nice solid color on each of them.
I kept standing back to make sure I was happy with it. Ultimately I decided to paint part of the tongue to carry the color up.
And then I went after the sides where the hardware is and that led me to wanting to do the hardware itself. It was very much a domino effect.
But the more I did the more I loved it.
Several coats and some fine line detailing with white paint later, I was left with this!

The leather was pretty scraped up to begin with and that texture still shows through the paint but I don’t really mind it. The colors pop and it feels like a funky sneaker now!
What do you think? Would you ever; a. buy a giant shoe? And b. give that giant shoe a makeover? I actually had a lot of fun working on this and found it the perfect spot in our family room.
Right next to the rattan motorcycle and above the ants, it fits right in.
