The holiday decor began coming down after I had been having the itch to switch things up. I do this every year after the holidays and this year was no different. Although this time I had been waiting for the perfect rug to kickstart my refresh. Which brings me to my last post where I shared the 5 budget finalists for the new rug and it’s time to share the winner!
Just a little reminder…I wanted bright, bold, fun and colorful. All of the contenders were rugs I loved and you very well may see here sometime in the future! BUT I decided to go with……
The Chroma Medallion Flourish Rug! It was a tough call between this one and the Chroma Tinted Floral Medallion Rug but I wanted to be more risky…I just can’t help myself!
Here’s a reminder of what it looked like before the holidays! What a difference right?! (Check out the post on how I put this together here)
And here’s a shot of how it looked over the summer! The many looks of our family room. AAANNNDDD I did all of these without buying anything new! Maybe a pillow here or there but all of the furniture, accessories and drapes I move around from different spaces!
And back to the current beautiousness…..
I’m adoring this rug in here, it brings a fantastic brightness and playfulness to the family room that was missing before. I moved a whole bunch of furniture around as you can see from the before’s. The brown sofa is from our bedroom and the white swing chair was being stored in the garage for the winter (it’s an outdoor chair!).
I decided to move the metal console over to this wall and retire the bench for a bit. It allowed me to put 2 lamps here along with several of my old books and little random items.
The only new things in the entire room are the rug, the 2 navy pillows on the blue sofa and the cactus pillow on the blue sofa. Cheers for reusing what you have already got!
I placed the 2 leather butterfly chairs, originally in the basement living room, on either side of the fireplace. I kept the chess set with them since our boys play together on the regular.
This swing chair is seriously the most comfy place to sit on the planet. We all fight over this seat! (of course mom always wins cause mom bought it! hahaha) I placed the camel saddle in front of it to use as a foot stool when you’re chillin. Trust me when I say you don’t want to leave once your booty is firmly settled in it.
Oh my beloved blue chesterfield with all of it’s beautiful pillow lovin. The addition of the navy and my stored hot pink beauties pulls from the rug in the most perfect way. And can I just say….look how clean the kitchen is!! That is a rarity folks, with 4 kiddos running around and snacking on the regular sadly it just doesn’t happen much.
A fun shot of my vintage atlas and cigar press. Don’t forget to add some fun little accessories like this to your home, it gives it personality and a sense of fun! And I must mention those gorgeous pink roses in the most perfect color, courtesy of my oh so thoughtful hubs! I think he’s spent enough time with me that he subconsciously knows what color to get depending on the decor hahaha!
Here is the family room from another angle. It’s a great shot of the new rug with all of my pillows from other spaces pulled together to tie in and make this space come alive. You can see how much a rug can make a difference in a room!
I tend to do this switch it on up thing quite often and one of the biggest tips I can give you, especially working on a budget, is to use what you already have and look at it in a whole new way. Take things from other rooms in the house and say to yourself, “hmmm I wonder if and how that could work in the living room?” And vice versa. We often get stuck in a rut, placing things in one spot and eventually not really even seeing them because we’re so used to seeing them where they’ve always been. Using things in different places and rearranging allows you to get a new space on the cheap and re-appreciate what you have by seeing it in a whole new light! It’s a great way to feel like things are brand new.
Did you guess the right rug?! Which one did you think would end up in here? I always love to hear from you so pop in your thoughts below.
